Vidéographe’s collection demonstrates strong links between Québécois activist video and Africa and the African diaspora through more than 30 documentary works that address political, social, and economic issues. This program brings together three videos that focus on anticolonial conflicts on the African continent. The films by Jean-Pierre Masse and Suzanne Côté recall visits to Montréal by Agostino Neto, who led the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola in April 1974, and by Nobel Peace Prize winner Desmond Tutu, who visited in June 1986 as part of his tour to raise awareness about apartheid. À force de courage (By Force of Courage) by Pierre Falardeau and Julien Poulin, gave voice to Algerians who lived through the hard battle for Algerian independence.
