Sensitive narratives: voice, image, sound in experimental cinema
Myriam Charles
WORKSHOP
$60 + taxes
This course offers an in-depth look at experimental forms of storytelling, using voice, image and sound. Using film extracts, personal projects and workshop exercises, participants will be encouraged to think differently about narrative: more sensory, fragmentary, poetic. Emphasis will be placed on the gestures of listening, attention to detail, and the way in which a narrative can emerge through juxtaposition or dissonance. An invitation to explore the porosity between documentary, fiction and video art.
Drawing on concrete examples from the artistic practice of artist Miryam Charles – films, research-in-progress, installations and short films – this course explores unconventional narrative forms through three axes: voice (written or performed narration), image (framing, texture, rhythm) and sound (ambiences, silences, dissonances). Participants will be invited to experiment with these three dimensions through practical exercises, active listening and group discussions.
