In 2021, Vidéographe celebrates 50 years of continuous commitment to research, dissemination, and sharing in video and experimental moving image practices. Always inspired by the legacy of its founders, Vidéographe pursues and develops initiatives in order to remain a prolific artist-run centre, in which artists of different generations and backgrounds can come together, experiment, support each other and learn.
The filmmaker Luc Bourdon, in collaboration with the Vidéographe team, has developed Les Vidéographes program covering 50 years of video creation. 50 works from the Vidéographe collection were selected.
The Vidéographe’s collection – of more than 2,300 titles – thus has the potential to bear witness to the evolution of this media history which was punctuated by major social, political, artistic and technological changes.
This programming reflects the evolution of genres, practices, styles, subjects, words and concerns of videographers, video artists and those who have ventured into the making of a videographic work.

Les Vidéographes – Behind the Frames
Over the past 50 years, video has seen a phenomenal evolution. New technological discoveries have meant that the medium’s once far-from-perfect image and sound are a thing of the past. We have now moved from an electronic to a digital era. This evolution has brought with it the opportunity for converging artistic approaches and high-quality production in a medium that is economic, light, portable, immediate and accessible.
The world of animation has also undergone a cultural and artistic revolution, while our predecessors’ practices have not been forgotten. In this programme, the public is invited to learn about the intentions of artisans who belong to a tradition that speaks of the soul of an image and of our duty to remember.
