The year 2021 marks the 50th anniversary of Vidéographe, a Montreal artist-run centre dedicated to research and presentation of moving image practices. The Festival International du Film sur l’Art (FIFA) is partnering with us to present in its FIFA Experimenal section, two programs curated by Montreal-based videomaker and filmmaker Luc Bourdon and Vidéographe’s team.
Les Vidéographes – The Theatre of My Image
The selfie, the self-portrait, self-filming, the representation of the self on screen – all of this is a part of the history and evolution of the videographic language. The stage transforms and becomes the frame of the camera that watches the evolving subject. Between performances and confessions, we soon become well acquainted with the videomakers who share their presence as well as their imaginations on screen.
This intimate theatre takes the form here of five unique works in the collection made by five remarkable videomakers.

Les Vidéographes – Performance for the Screen
Since the beginning of the Vidéographe experience in 1970, the worlds of dance, theatre performance and the visual arts have been a part of the adventure, with works that allow artists to play with their own images, record their performances, or experiment with an audiovisual support.
A selection of seven short videos that illustrate the art of performance video and feature the pioneer of the genre, none other than marshalore.

BIOGRAPHY
The former Executive Director of the Festival international du nouveau cinéma et des nouveaux Médias de Montréal (FCMM), Luc Bourdon has made over fifty works which have been shown at festivals and on television both within Canada and abroad. In 1998, the Canada Council for the Arts awarded Bourdon the Bell Canada Prize in recognition of excellence in video art. Working in many areas, he juggles fiction and documentary, essay and experimentation, installation and reporting, as well as film production and broadcasting.
